We are getting ready to head south! The snow is beginning to appear on the mountain tops and the chill in the air has arrived. It has been a most adventurous summer, and Silverton is an awesome town filled with awesome people. Our work camping adventure was awesome as well. Worked for some really great people and would have loved to come back for another season but really want to make the rounds to see family. We wanted June, July August (the busy months) but they went with people who wanted the whole season. I get that and secretly hope that someone leaves early or doesn't work out so they will call the backup help!! Maybe us!!
We took the Razor out for one last adventure to see all the beautiful fall colors and our trip to the top did not disappoint. What a perk getting to use this machine to adventure into the wild. If ever in the area do not hesitate to rent and explore. Although it was free for us to use (aside from gas) renting is always an option for the average jo schmo. Pricy but worth it!!
The aspens are the beautiful yellow!!
This is a smoking volcano that was about to erupt and spew hot lava on me! I almost died just thinking about how my skin would get burned off!!
More yellow!!
This is a fixer upper for sure. I totally would do it but it has got to be harder than hell to get building materials up her and since it is above the tree line I can not chop down trees and ax them into building materials. Aside from that I would probably die with all that axing!!
I just love seeing all the old structures of mills and mines. I still cannot believe someone would climb a mountain, dig a hole, build a mine, build a mill, build housing for workers, & mine this rough land. What kind of crazy people do that!!??
This is not one of those crazy miners but is in fact a crazy person!
Snow on the roof probably is what made this place collapse! I can definitely speculate on what happened and it will most likely be wrong, but a good imagination is what keeps me happy!
I found this guy walking around the hills dazed and confused.
Where are the trees!! My guess is that they were all cut down by the crazy miners to build their now broken down mills and housing. This above the tree line crap is a hoax. There were trees once! I just know it!
Prior to getting to the top of this pass we stopped for a picnic of apples and PeanutButter and cold coconut shrimp from last night's dinner. It was a delicious lunch, and we ate it all. Got back in the razor only to find out that it would not start. Well now what. We have eaten all our food and are surely going to die up here at 12,000 feet where no wildlife to hunt or trees to cut for shelter.
Thank goodness I believe in the power of prayer and the vehicle started. On to another death experience!!
I love, love this black and white. I may just use it as my screen saver on my phone.
The center lense of my phone cracked and sometimes I get these streaks on my pictures. Kinda cool looking unless it is across someone's face.
Dick has been working on the disc golf course here for a while with the guys here in town. putting in tee pads with some pavers that were just laying around. Hard work digging in the hard rock but they are almost done. These are the views toward Silverton from one of the pads
Snowy tops are appearing!
It has been a bit rainy but the beauty that follows is always amazing!
We took a hike up 12,000 ish feet and again I am amazed at what people build in the middle of nowhere. A sauna!! WTH!!
Our friend Marshall found this cool spot a while ago to build a tree net. He hikes up and weaves rope in tree. Again,,,,,in the middle of nowhere. Once it is done I suppose you just sit in ther and enjoy the beauty. Crazy??? Maybe, but it is quite a beautiful view.
Me pointing to the tree net! Just for reference so if we ever hike back up here, we will know where to find it.
Base map will also tell me!!
What a view!!!
While the guys were weaving, I walked about and found a weapon! I will most certainly stab this into a bear's neck should it choose to attack me!
Well, I hope you have all enjoyed our summer in Colorado! We have always loved the mountains much more than the beach!! Until our next adventure here is a final picture of the Colorado beauty and a perfectly level tee pad on a mountain!!
