DND Road Trippin'

Adventure with us as we travel the country in search of history, great scenery, mass quantities of wild life, disc golf courses, microbreweries, fun people and some awesome campgrounds to park our home on wheels. We also hope to do a lot of dispersed camping in the Southwest as well. There will be sunny days and there will be cloudy days but a day without laughter is a day wasted!! ROLL ON!!

Out with the old...In with the new

.
Well, the sun is still shining, and Arizona has not disappointed us yet!!  This place is so much fun. Settling in with not much for travel this winter but for the most part it's been pretty awesome  While Dick was on the mend, I went to the local racetrack with friends and had a great time watching cars go around in circles!! No crashes for excitement but flames coming out of one of the cars was pretty cool!!

Desert disc golf did not disappoint at Lakeside!  I will walk this course any day.  Some courses are just yuck but this has lot look at and some little up down hilly things!

I may have posted this in the last blog but its so colorful and pretty.

Christmas decoration can be challenging when you have none of your decorations from our other life.  I will forever have paper bag snowflakes every year and use whatever is available in my junk crafts to make something fab.  I made little Gnomes from toilet paper rolls and yarn, used old cards to make paper ball ornaments, and clear plastic ornament balls that were filled with hot chocolate powder last year and hung them all on last year's green tinsel that turned a different color from the sun.  I am forever repurposing old junk into something.  May be tacky to some but beautiful to me!!

An old coffee table book turned into this years homemade Christmas tree!!

Enough of Christmas.  I have been taking a couple of the classes offered here at the resort and this one was by far the coolest.  Something I have never done is always cool.  Glass fussion!!!  You take a base piece of glass and layer on a bunch of other cut or scrap (which I prefer) glass on top and fire it in a little firey furnace.  Ok its a kiln but firey furnace sounds cooler.  and then wah la!!  a funky thing.  The 1st picture is the layering thingy and the 2nd is the final.  I glued a magnet on the back and hung it on the frig.  This little guy make me smile!! I will most likely make more things.  You can do bowls, plates, earings, pendants etc.

Candle making class was fun! Started this baby on fire and Mr. Gingerbread man fell of right quick. I stuffed him back in the melted wax so he couldn't escape again.

Oh boy!!!  I was feeling super energetic and painted all our cabinet doors and drawer fronts.  What a project.  These tiny homes have crap for cabinets, but I washed and sanded. Dick removed all the handles and we spray painted them and I proceeded to prime and paint them.  They look fabulous.  Well, better than they did when I started anyhow. I only painted the doors and not the cabinets and I think they look alright.  It was great to meet all the people who walked by as I painted requesting to be next in line for a paint job. Remember people......Its OK to say NO!!!

Painting a snowman!  I am not sure why I keep attempting this.  It may look ok but I am definitely more of a wall or cabinet painter!

Many of you know how I loved baking Christmas cookies.  Not so much anymore when you only have a convection microwave that only holds one tray at a time.  So....pretzel gingerbreads it is!!

Found this little gem on the side of the road for FREE!  So much free stuff out in front of peoples houses as you walk around that you never have to buy another thing!

Dick cousin Paul stopped by with his girlfriend.  It was nice to catch up!!

Ana came to visit!!!  Yippy for Grandkids!  Here she is praying to Jesus to make it down the slide.  It was so cute.  Her prayers were answered, and she made it to have more fun.

Charley, Ana, Dick and I took a ride up to Mt Lemmon to ride on the ski lift for fun. We also had a great lunch. Fun was had on the ride and we didn't die.

After the ride we went to a brewery for a beer and I almost died! For real but not for real.
1/2 a beer in I passed out and fell from my high stool.  Charley & Dick saw me going down and saved me from being concussed!  30 seconds later I started breathing and was on the floor not knowing what the hell just happened.  The bar tender called the EMS people.  Got my vitals taken and told them I was fine and we carried on with our adventure for the day.   On to another brew house, more beer and pizza.  WEIRD it was.  The next day I gave blood and life is good.  I do not believe I have ever fainted in my life.  Well there is a 1st time for everything.
Steve flew out to golf with a friend and spend time with Charley and Ana and us of course and we had a great visit.  Swimming, eating and talking!

Took a trip to the Childrens museum in Tucson and had a kids new year celebration where there was a 🌵 cactus drop at noon.  What a crowd for a stuffy to slowly drop from the ceiling and a bit of confetti.  The museum was pretty awesome and super crowded for this event.  Fun was had.

New years eve dance at the Resort did not disappoint. Laughed my ass off at these two ladies with their blow up date Tim.  Old people are fun!!

Best to you all in the new year and don't expect and super exciting blogs for a bit but I will try to keep you up with what's happening in the lives of Dick & Dawn!!

Hello my thousands of Fans

Saying goodbye to Colorado beauty was a bit hard but we are moving on to Arizonia beauty.  From the mouth of a non-traveler I once heard, why would you want to visit or stay there.  It's just a dessert. Silly girl!! Beauty is found everywhere on this earth.  If you open your eyeballs, you will see it in the plants, the wildlife, the culture of the people, the architecture of the buildings, & the ethnic foods. It is the history of our country.

We left in the beginning of October when the trees were still beauteous!  Truely a site to see!  Not like the changing of leaves in Wisconsin. There are many different trees in in the Wisconsin woods and many different leaf colors in the fall.  This area of Colorado had a shit ton of Aspens which turn a beautiful golden yellow and the hills are alive with sunshine!

Well we headed south and stopped to camp a couple hour from Silverton.  Met up with friend to disc golf and man was it windy!! Good thing this guys tent got wedged between car and truck or it could have ended up in Russia.  Not sure if the wind was blowing that way but being the weather man Dick thinks I am I do believe it would have flown there.

Stopped and picked up some walnuts.  I recommend you never peel these little #&^$s without gloves.  Then only to read that you should let the green part dry on the walnut for a year before you crack them open and eat. Well Google is my friend, and I will probably not ever do that cause who has a place to dry walnuts in their home for a year.  Besides that, I have money to buy ones that are already shelled and ready to eat or bake with and my hand/fingers won't be black for a week from peeling them.  I bet once they dry out all that black goo dries out to and there isn't a mess.  Well, I will never find out!!

Tucson!!  Guess where our 1st adventure was?? Yup, a disc golf thing.  Every Monday they have a putting league at night in a rather lovely lit up courtyard at the Congress Hotel in downtown Tucson.  Dick can put put and I can sit at the bar and have cocktails Ok I do go out to watch too.  Otherwise I would bet smashed.  Its definately a 4 beer round.

Oh the pretty sunsets.  If you have never been to the southwest you are missing some of the most beautiful skys! The poky cacti's are all so unique and no two will look even similar.

Shortly after arriving we had two visitors.  Ann & Rosemary.  They did a quick stop over for a couple nights on their way to the Packer game in Phoenix, Made some Chicken Cashew and drank way to many beer and sat up taking with Ann almost all night.  Slightly hung over in the morning.  Somehthing, I have not been in a long time

While they were live at the game I sat around and made me a new Packer bracelet.  One can never have to many Green and Gold things.

OH BOY!!! This guy ended in the hospital with some bacteria in his blood and suffered through 2 operations to remove sone stuff. 2 weeks eating hospital food.  He grows thinner by the day. Gotta get him home to fatten him up. He will be fine.

Probably should have found him some old fashioned Coca-Cola

We watched the Packer Game on his tiny phone in the hospital room.  I knit a whole baby blanket while visiting him.  I am a super bad wife and didn't go to visit him a couple of days because I needed me time!  Which means pizza, beer & ice cream.  Don't tell him!!

Out the door of our time home.  Another beauty!!

Getting ready for more visitors this November.  Hope they don't mind sleeping in the kitchen.  I moved the table to blow up the super comfy bed. Hope they bring eye masks cause this is one bright ass room. Or maybe they are early risers.

My sister Kim is coming for almost two weeks then at the end of the month Marshall (a friend from Colorado) is coming.  His intent was to play disc golf with Dick in a tournament and check out the other courses.  Hopefully Dick gets his strength back to at least walk about with him or Marshall will just have to sit and crochet with me!!

Who doesn't love a plant that will seriously injure you!

I really wanted to photo shop eyeballs on this picture but couldn't figure it out!  I guess there are more important things in life than playing with your computer.

This is the set up for Dicks 2 time a day IV infusion. I highly recommend that you do not ever, ever have this in your life.

Kim and I took a trip up to Mount Lemon, or as she calls it Lemon Mountain.  Great views of the surrounding area.  Pretty, pretty, pretty!!

Took her to the one of the local theatres for a comedy show and had a great laugh.  She stole extra popcorn and since we were on the balcony most of what was to go in her mouth ended up on the people below. many laughs were had.

The Tucson Desert Museum was pretty awesome.  Lots of trails around the desert with every poky thing you can possibly imagine.  They have water fill up stations everywhere so you would die out there and lots of other cool stuff.  All the animal native to the desert were there too, so its kinda of like a mini zoo too. This is Kim.  She is way older than me and tells everyone that I was adopted.  That is probably why I tell everyone she is way older than me when in fact she is younger but truly doesn't look it. Don't worry, she won't be offended by this because she doesn't read my fabulous writings!

This is a crested cactus and it is awesome looking.  Super Amazing and not a common thing to see.  Google it for more info because I cannot tell you all the things!

Kim just chilling in a Hippy bus!

I just gotta make these!!  They are strawberries with rolos!!

TRUE!!

We went to the share the bounty dance at the RV resort and had a blast.  Totally not our thing to dance or even listen to all the songs that every band plays at these things but the fun we have with our friends is priceless.  I did chair dance with 3 others doing the YMCA.  Laughed so hard I dam near pissed my depends.  OK, we may live in a 55 + resort but not quite depends age yet!!  Anyhow, each table bring food to share and tries to stack it up and make beautiful center pieces! Obviously we are not sharing our beer but we needed height and used some empty cans.  Fun was had!!

Many of you know we have this app called untappd and we rate our beers. I do not give out a 5 often (highest rating on this app) but this one was deserving and besides that the can art kinda looks like me in the morning!!

Crafty corner time!!!  I got a ton of coffee filters from our last gig.  They were throwing them away because they bought the wrong size.  We if you know me, one mans trash is my treasure.  I cut them, dyed them and hot glued them to a skewer and ta da!!  Flowers. For what I do not know but it was free and it was something to do and it was fun!!  So there!!

This is the side of our little house. Maybe I will make it look better or maybe I won't but the sky makes it look pretty nice!!

Better late than never!!
Until I write again!!  No promises of when or if!
