Adventure with us as we travel the country in search of history, great scenery, mass quantities of wild life, disc golf courses, microbreweries, fun people and some awesome campgrounds to park our home on wheels. We also hope to do a lot of dispersed camping in the Southwest as well. There will be sunny days and there will be cloudy days but a day without laughter is a day wasted!! ROLL ON!!

Travels to the East

What another adventurous road trip!!  We were (or maybe it was just me) excited to travel on from Yuma.  We had a most excellent time and will most likely return to this lovely warm climate  at some point but for now I am happy, happy for the GREEN!! Missed the trees.  I have been making octopus things while I travel.  JUST another thing to leave laying around for someone to find or I just give them away whenever a kid is present and in need of a scary ocean animal!

We will miss the pretty skies of the southwest! This was outside some brewery we stopped at along the way. There were so many beautiful sunsets.  Can't tell you about the sunrise because I am retired!!

Las Cruces is a great stopping point along our journeys because we have friend there. At least we think they are our friends.  We went to their daughters track meet and spent a couple hours watching people run, jump run, jump, run & jump.  What the heck are they thinking out there.  Who does this stuff. Oh to be young in body again.  We had a fabulous dinner at their joint and made an awesome trade for these priceless aluminum Solo cups for a bottle of Sazerac Rye bourbon.  We helped drink a bit of it but I still think we got a great deal.  Some would beg to differ!!

We parked the camper at a golf course where our friend's son worked, and she just picked us up for Las Cruces fun, food and games.  Played some cards and said farewell until next time.

On to San Antonio where Dicks Sister lives.  We stopped here last year and spent a couple of months if you remember reading a past post and had fun so we thought, what the hell.  We only spent a couple days but there was disc golf, funky trees and of course the best in grocery store made tortillas.  We really only stop for the tortillas but don't tell Dicks sister that!!

We were traveling the southern route to the east for a reason.  We have never been in many southern states and of course we have to stay and play in a state to be able to fill in our map.  It is filling in nicely but we have so many more states to visit. Visited most but didn't stay in our camper!  That is a must for the win.  Louisiana was an interesting place.  Bridges that seem to go on forever over the marshy alligator infested swamp.  I watched an episode of alligator hunters and these people are CRAZY.

The Mighty Muddy Mississippi picture from one of the bridges. Cloudy ugly day but this really is an amazing river.  We stayed at a campground in New Orleans and they had a shuttle to bourbon street and I have never wanted to go here and visit but I thought if I didn't do it now I may never get the chance.  We had fun drinking beers at a brewery, walked around a bunch and people watched.  So many bars, shops and eateries.  Best part was you could walk around with your beer or cocktails.

Mannequins partying on the verandas and lots of other crazy art and dead people stuff!

Right on the river makes this a fun place as well.  Something is always going on!  We went into a brewery to have a beer and behind the bar was this well of fresh oysters.  Man, they must love these slimy things because they employed a guy just to stand back there and shuck them when people ordered.  We didn't have to sit next to this fishy smelly thing, but it was super interesting, and I really don't hate fish smells anyhow.

This is me being a tourist!

This poor guy pulled up next to the truck on a rainy day.  He was going home to a warm stable because there were no tourists to drive around.  Probably!

Dick met up with a couple guys our friend in Las Cruces hook him up with to go disc golfing.  We knew the guy in green from way back when we lived in Wisconsin.  We had a great time walking around City Park and checking out all the live oak trees.  Such a beautiful park and so many trees!! There were so many other kinds of trees that I didn't really even take a picture of the live oaks.  You just have to go on your own and see them.

This was a really cool brewery we found that is a great venue for concerts and stuff.  It even had a 9 hole disc golf course.  We will defiantly go back because it is a Harvest Host.  For those of you who do not know of this Harvest Host thing....it is an app/website that you pay for yearly membership, and you can go stay for free at breweries, wineries, working farms or just about anywhere where people have listed their spot to park.  Mostly without water and electric hook ups and mostly they only want you there a night but it is FREE.  Or is it!!??  They want you to support their business by purchasing what every product they produce.  We have no problem with that!!  Campground for just one night are anywhere from $15-$150. We are not going to spend that just to sleep. We have gone to many a brewery and stayed over with no membership. But I feel that when we leave Virginia we will buy a membership and see what else is out there.  I could dig staying at a farm or distillery or church.  The possibilities are endless!

I was very excited to see a cousin that I haven't seen in years. She is just outside of New Orleans, and we parked at the Walmart and Anna and her wife Pam came to pick us up and we went to breakfast.  If you didn't know about this little joint you would pass it right by.  I am so glad we hooked up with these guys to catch up and eat some delicious food.  We even tried alligator sausage.  The whole bill for the 4 of us was around $30 & we were stuffed and satisfied.  If we are ever in Louisiana again, we will defiantly call and see them again!!

We made it to Mississippi but never spent any time here so I will have to fill that state in another day.  I can now say I've been there though.

Our neighbors in Yuma gave us cookies for the ride and the last one made it all the way to Mississippi.  We may just have to go back to AZ for more cookies!! Bev and Charlie were some of the nicest people and we promised them we would come see them at their summer home in Oregon next summer.  Hope she makes more cookies!

Georgia Beer and sleeping!!  We stayed in the parking lot of this recommended brewery.  A guy Dick use to work for live here now and said it was a must stop.  We didn't get to see him but we still had fun and ate a giant pretzel and drank.

Peach water towers are just wrong!!

We spent 5 days at a camp close to the North Carolia border in South Carolina. We needed a rest from travel and I needed time to explore a little and see what was out there.  Of course, I gravitated towards a historical place.  It was a nice little working farm with gin mill.  It wasn't in full swing with costumed people but it was still cool to walk around the buildings.  The stable had only one cow and it dam near killed me.  It tried to ram the fence to trample over me because I said MOO!!

The public restroom had a fireplace in it. I know this is not authentic, but it sure beats a hole in an outhouse!  No slivers in my butt!!

Of course, there was more beer involved but don't think for a moment that is all we do.  We eat too!!

A picture of Grandson #1 our daughter Alex sent of him flying over a very high pole and flopping on a cushy mat.  OK its pole vaulting and it is awesome.  For HIM!!

More disc golf & a new feather in my collection!  As you can see the US map is filling in but we have a lot of traveling yet to do!  No plans to stop any time soon so we should be able to fill it in.  Accept Hawaii.  I think if I watch a YouTube on camping in Hawaii, that will be good enough. Another place I have no desire to visit but you just never know.  Of course, I can't camp in my home there, but if we ever go I am filling that state in anyhow.

North Carolina for a 10 day stay.  We stayed 15 minutes from Charley & Steves place and had fun with them traveling to many a brewery and had lots of fun with Ana.  She is just shy of 2 and it took her a while to warm up to us but that is to be expected.  Such a cutie and fun to watch.  Her nanny's son called us Grandma and Grandpa, so I guess we have a new Grandson.  His name is Holden!  The area had a ton of rain and the lake was real floody but still pretty.  We hiked around the park a bit and had a great time visiting with more family.  Wen on adventures to breweries, dinosaur's, parks, eateries, saw lots of turtles, made yummy cinnamon rolls, watched the hawks in the yard & drank bourbon.  Life was good in NC.

We didn't get to see Harri yet but I couldn't let this post go by with out more cutiness.

Once we start adventuring here in Virginia, there will be more exciting stuff!!  Stay tuned!!
